Safe Zone Allies Student Network
The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education, in partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services, would like to inform you of an exciting opportunity for students.
The Safe Zone Allies Student Network welcomes students of any sexuality and/or gender identity who are interested in and committed to addressing issues and topics of importance to the LGBTQ+ community. Students in the network meet weekly to learn about and discuss LGBTQ+ history, gender and sexual identities, community cultures and norms, the laws and policies that affect the LGBTQ+ community, heteronormativity and oppression, and more.
Through participation in this network, students gain valuable skills and practical knowledge that will help them in developing their LGBTQ+ advocacy and allyship. After attending four sessions, students will receive their Safe Zone Allies backpack pin, and after eight sessions they will earn a Safe Zone Allies sticker and certificate, which signify personal devotion to their role as an LGBTQ+ ally.
Students interested in taking advantage of this opportunity may register on HogSync, and following approval of registration, they will be added to the Safe Zone Allies Student Network portal in Microsoft Teams. This is where virtual weekly meetings will be held, and students can also engage with other network members and access additional resources in this portal.
Meetings will be held every Monday evening from 5:30-6:30 p.m., beginning on Monday, Feb. 1.
