Murphy Recognized for Service to Higher Learning Commission

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Cheryl Murphy, head of the curriculm and instruction department in the College of Education and Health Professions was recently recognized for her service at the Higher Learning Commission Annual Meeting.

Murphy has been a volunteer Peer Corps member with the commission for 10 years, serving as reviewer and team chair on over 20 campus accreditation reviews.  She has also applied what she has learned from this work to the U of A campus by helping to lead accreditation planning, including preparation for the site visit that occurred at the U of A in April 2017. 

“Serving as a Peer Reviewer for HLC has been both a rewarding and educational experience,” Murphy said. “It is very rewarding to work with other institutions as a consultant peer reviewer, identifying ways to assist them in achieving their mission and vision. It is also an informative activity in that I am exposed to a variety of innovative campus models, practices, and initiatives that I can immediately bring back to the U of A for consideration.”   

“As a  member of the Board of Trustees for the Higher Learning Commission, I’m very aware of the rigor of  the accreditation process, and the fact that the continued improvement of the quality of higher education would not be possible without the work of Peer Corps volunteers,” said Chancellor Joseph E. Steinmetz. “I commend Dr. Murphy for her many years of service not only toward this endeavor on behalf of other institutions, but to ours a well.”
