FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Dennis Beck, University of Arkansas assistant professor of educational technology, was honored last month by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology with two awards for his work.

Beck received the 2016 Immersive Learning Award in the non-linear category for his work evaluating two online art appreciation courses developed for the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

With Scott Warren, a colleague from the University of North Texas, Beck evaluated an interactive virtual gallery application for the courses developed by the Tesseract Center for Immersive Environments and Game Design in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the U of A. Beck and Warren evaluated not just the content of the course but also the teacher training component.

Beck also won, with Warren, the Jerry Kemp Endowed Lecture Award, a new award based on research presentations made at the conference in Las Vegas. Beck and Warren will share a painting of Kemp, who was a former president of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology and an author of seminal books in the educational technology field.

"I was very honored," Beck said. "It makes it especially meaningful to be recognized by peers and those who are further along in their careers."

Beck joined the faculty of the College of Education and Health Professions in 2010.
