Entrepreneurship Office Hosts Social Innovation Information Session

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Arkansas will hold an information sessionon Sept. 22 that will focus on social innovation opportunities for faculty and staff.

Rogelio Garcia Contreras, who joined the university in January as inaugural director of the Social Innovation Program, will lead the Lunch and Learn event, scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. in Arkansas Union, Room 503. Food will be provided. Registration is encouraged by visiting the online registration page.

In this session, Contreras will discuss his strategic initiatives, including courses on social entrepreneurship, a social enterprise certificate program, a social entrepreneurship lecture series, grant writing and fundraising, and potential local and international partnerships.

Contreras founded to the Social Entrepreneurship Program at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, before coming to the U of A. In March, he was one of eight scholars from around the world to be chosen to serve on an Advisory Steering Committee of UNESCO. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is charged with contributing to international peace by promoting intellectual and moral solidarity through educational, scientific and cultural reform.
