Business Majors Receive Academic Credit for Relevant Work Experience

Cooperative Education is an optional, academic program that enables business majors to receive upper-level business elective credit for working at a job or internship that pertains to their field of study.

Each year approximately 200 students receive Cooperative Education credit for a variety of experiences. In an effort to establish relationships with some of these organizations and understand business students’ working environments, the Sam M. Walton College of Business Career Development Center staff conduct Co-op company visits each semester. Two to three Co-op students are selected at random, and Career Center staff members meet with the students and their supervisors to learn more about the organization and the students’ experiences.

The Walton College Career Center visited with Local Trade Partners in November where a management major is working as an intern. Another visit is planned to SVI later this month where an accounting/finance student is working as an intern. For more information about these organizations, please visit their websites: localtradepartners.com and sviworld.com.

Applications are currently being accepted for spring 2013 Cooperative Education credit. For more information, please visit the Walton College Cooperative Education page or contact Sara Yell at yell@uark.edu.
