Google Gemini and Google NotebookLM are now available as additional artificial intelligence tools that are approved for the U of A campus community at no extra cost to current employees and students.
Google Gemini for Education is a generative AI assistant that works as a Google Chrome browser add-on, web app or mobile app. It has strong integration with Google search and web-based information.
Google NotebookLM is a research and study assistant that works only from sources a user uploads, such as documents, PDFs and links. It is excellent for summarizing readings, synthesizing notes and preparing structured research.
Current employees and students can access Gemini for Education or NotebookLM from a web browser or mobile device by logging in with their UARK credentials.
IT Services encourages the campus community to participate in the AI Literacy & Data Responsibility community of practice through Viva Engage. This community of practice provides a forum for faculty, staff and students to post AI usage questions and share lessons learned.
Employees and students can submit a ticket with the IT Help Desk if they experience access issues with any of the university-approved AI tools. If users need help deciding which AI tool is best for them, they are encouraged to view a comparison guide made available to campus.
