Looking to bring your ideas to life? The new Makerspace in Mullins Library is open and ready for you to explore. Whether you're a student, faculty or staff member, this collaborative, hands-on environment is designed to help you create, experiment and innovate—no matter your experience level.

Located on Level 2 of Mullins, the Makerspace offers a wide range of tools and resources to support all kinds of creative projects. Equipment includes two sewing machines, two sergers, a heavy-duty sewing machine, a laser cutter, a vinyl cutter, a Cricut Maker 3, two soldering stations, seven 3D printers and a variety of hand tools and arts and crafts supplies. Whether you're mending a costume, engraving a design, soldering a circuit or experimenting with 3D printing, the Makerspace provides the tools, materials and support you need to make it happen.

Anyone in the U of A community who has completed the required training and form can stop by during operating hours to use available equipment. Some tools, such as the laser cutter, 3D printers, vinyl cutter and soldering stations, require reservations, while others like the sewing machines and Cricut are available for walk-ins if not already reserved. Reservations are encouraged to guarantee access, but no one has to reserve a time just to come into the space.

University Libraries currently provides many consumable materials, including 3D print filament, at no cost to Makerspace users. However, this is a courtesy and may change in the future. Availability isn't guaranteed, and for some projects, users may need to supply their own materials. For safety and quality reasons, outside materials are not allowed for 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting or soldering. There's currently no limit on how much material you can use, but that may change as more people take advantage of the space.

The Mullins Library Makerspace is more than a lab; it's a community hub for creativity, collaboration and hands-on learning. To learn more about access, equipment, training and policies, visit the Makerspace guide. Come on in, try something new and see what you can make!
