U of A students Kaylee Shoemaker and Noralee Townsend have each been selected to receive 2023 Arkansas Women in Agriculture $1,000 scholarships.

Both are Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences students majoring in agricultural education, communication and technology. Shoemaker is from Conway and Townsend from Rose Bud.

Shoemaker is studying agricultural education with aspirations to be an agricultural science teacher. Townsend is stuying agricultural communications and agricultural leadership. Both have been involved in the agriculture industry from a young age.

Shoemaker's start in agriculture began at the age of 5. She has been an active 4-H and FFA member throughout high school. Since a young age, she has been involved with her family's beef cattle operation.

Townsend grew up on her family's cow-calf and hay farm, and has even established her own herd of roughly 30 Angus and Brangus cattle. She is a current member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow.

Arkansas Women in Agriculture is a private nonprofit with goals to provide educational programming and a network of support for women involved in agriculture.
