New Administrative Assistant Training Program Teaches Essential Office Skills

ROGERS, Ark. – The deadline is approaching to register for a nine-week Administrative Assistant Training Program set to begin April 17 at the University of Arkansas Global Campus in Rogers.

“This program is great for people interested in pursuing job opportunities like office administrative assistants, business office assistants, or clerical and support staff,” said Heather Sprandel, program coordinator. “Also, current office workers can gain confidence by enhancing their skills.”

The nine-week program runs Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. April 17 to June 12. The cost is $1,599, and registration is available online through April 16. A 10 percent discount is available for University of Arkansas faculty, staff and students.

This program is an approved Eligible Training Program in this Local Workforce Investment Area. Scholarships, which include full funding, are available for eligible individuals who meet required criteria as part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

Examples of eligible individuals who may receive these scholarships include, but are not limited to, adults, displaced workers and youth ages 16-24. To determine eligibility, contact the Arkansas Workforce Center in Fayetteville at 479-521-5730. Participants should let the Arkansas Workforce Center know of their interest in this program and scholarship funding.

This blended program offers participants a combination of study online and face-to-face, with hands-on training at the Global Campus in Rogers, 3300 Market St.

The course covers essential, basic computer application skills, including the Microsoft Office suite, as well as routine clerical and administrative functions.

Topics include drafting business correspondence, scheduling appointments, organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files, providing information to callers, delivering exceptional customer service, developing presentations and utilizing word-processing and database management software.

The Global Campus Rogers provides workforce development and continuing education classes to help people in Northwest Arkansas advance in their careers or start new ones. Customized training is also available.
