ROGERS, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Global Campus in Rogers will offer an Oct. 28 workshop to help professionals manage and successfully implement strategic change in the workplace.

Online registration is open for “Against the Odds: An Introduction to Successful Strategic Change.” The class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Global Campus, Suite 402, 3300 Market St., Rogers, and the cost is $99. U of A faculty, staff and students get a 10 percent discount. Group discounts are also available.

“Organizations face change every day, from introducing a new product to restructuring,” said Tara Dryer, the Global Campus director of training, corporate development and academic outreach. “Being able to implement change in a thoughtful and organized way is essential in attaining the organizational mission and success.”

Grace Judson, an investigator and facilitator of Meaningful Strategic Change, will teach the class.

The key to effective change – change that works, lasts and has meaningful results – lies in understanding the hidden, and often unconscious, internal commitments that stakeholders have to keeping things just the way they are, according to Judson. This class will focus on building a foundation to enact meaningful strategic change, while counteracting the power of hidden competing commitments.

Learning objectives are to:

  • Know why and how to establish the three foundational pillars of an effective change initiative
  • Demonstrate the value of medium-term planning (versus short-term or long-term) in creating effective strategic change initiatives
  • Discover what shared meaning is, why it’s essential for change, and how to create it within your stakeholder community
  • Learn the neuroscience behind decision-making, and know how to apply that knowledge in facilitating strategic change
  • Understand the concept of unconscious competing commitments, why they derail change, and how to counteract their power
