Student Move-in Affects Traffic, Parking
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Students will begin arriving on the University of Arkansas campus this weekend. In an effort to keep the community informed and to avoid some traffic headaches, the office of university housing and the Division of Student Affairs would like to share the following information and dates with the campus community:
Sunday, Aug. 12 — Approximately 1,400 students will be moving in. The north side of campus will be affected especially as all residents of the new Maple Hill Residence Hall will be moving in. However, students in other parts of campus will be moving in as well. Access to parking lots directly adjacent to residence halls will be restricted.
Students and staff participating in testing at Hotz Hall on Sunday morning are encouraged to park in Lot 37, just northeast of Hotz and due north of the Northwest Quad. The lot adjacent to Hotz, Lot 40, will be used on Sunday by students moving into Maple Hill Residential Hall, but parking in Lot 37 will still allow quick access to Hotz Hall while allowing test takers and staff to avoid most of the move-in traffic.
Wednesday, Aug. 15 — Parking lots directly adjacent to residence halls need to be cleared by 5 p.m. Parking lots designated Faculty/Staff should not be used for move-in purposes. The department of transit and parking will post signs at the entrances to these lots reminding patrons of this deadline. Every effort will be made to contact the owners of vehicles left in these lots after 5 p.m. to avoid relocation of vehicles.
Thursday, Aug. 16 — Freshman Welcome Day! All first-year students are encouraged to arrive on this day. Access to all parking lots directly adjacent to residence halls will be restricted. The office of university housing expects close to 2,000 students will move in to their residence halls on this date.
Please review the maps at http://housing.uark.edu/MoveIn/maps.htm to see where arriving student traffic is being directed. These maps should help faculty and staff members plan their route to campus on move-in days. While faculty and staff parking lots are not used for move-in, new students may not be as familiar with campus parking lot designations. Patience and understanding is appreciated as students learn the parking rules for campus.
Friday, Aug. 17 — Returning Student Welcome Day. All returning students are encouraged to arrive on this day. Access to all parking lots directly adjacent to residence halls will be restricted. The house office expects most of the remaining students, approximately 900, will move into their residence halls on this date. Again, please review the maps at http://housing.uark.edu/MoveIn/maps.htm to see where arriving student traffic is being directed.
