Initial Results of 2025 Employee Engagement Survey Available Now

The U of A conducted its first employee engagement survey in fall 2025 as an initiative to strengthen its reputation as an Employer of Choice. More than 2,000 U of A employees participated in the confidential survey, which was administered by McLean and Company, an independent human resources research firm.

The Office of Human Resources, Faculty Affairs and the university's executive leadership team have begun reviewing and working to better understand the findings while beginning unit-level action planning.

The U of A is considered high-performing or average in each of the 13 engagement drivers measured. Overall, 78% of respondents are engaged or almost engaged, indicating they exert discretionary effort and are generally passionate about their work. Relationships with co-workers, relationships with managers and recognition were among the university's strongest areas. College and unit collaborationexecutive leadership and career advancement and development emerged as areas with the most opportunity for improvement.

"I want to thank everyone who completed the survey," said Chancellor Charles Robinson. "The results are helping identify our strengths as a campus as well as areas for growth. Because each division is responsible for different priorities, I've asked each vice chancellor to develop a plan for addressing their team's unique feedback and needs."

Additional information about the results and next steps for the university, divisions and colleges will be shared later this year. This will include:

  • A webpage with a comprehensive overview of university-level results.

  • Distribution of divisional- and college-level results.

  • Action planning based off division-specific data.

  • Continued development of a university-wide employee engagement strategy.

  • Further updates on how the university is taking action.

Questions about the Employee Engagement Survey can be directed to the Office of Human Resources.
