UREC Tennis Center

University Recreation would like to inform its users and campus affiliates that effective July 1, membership rates will be increasing. The fee increase was approved by the U of A Board of Trustees in May 2023 and will be reflected on all membership renewals or new membership purchases after June 30.

This fee increase is due to the additional expansion of UREC facilities, hours of operation and services over the past 10 years. Some of these new additions include:

  • The renovation of additional exercise space for members in the Arkansas Student Union for the UREC Fitness Center in 2012, which features almost 6,000 square feet of fitness floor space, a 1,500-square-foot group exercise room, and men's and women's locker and shower facilities.

  • The installation of an artificial turf playing surface, LED lighting, goal posts and softball backstop fixtures in 2017 at the UREC Sports Complex on Mitchell Street in Fayetteville. This allowed for informal recreation play to begin at the space and expanded use for the intramural and club sport programs.

  • The opening of the UREC Tennis Center in March of 2022 on W. Indian Trail in Fayetteville, which features 12 lighted tennis courts and a service facility that includes an equipment checkout center and restrooms.

  • The opening of the UARK Wellness Lounge in the Pat Walker Health Center in April 2023.

  • The addition of new fitness equipment in the HPER and UREC Fitness Center including free-weights, selectorized machinery and Olympic lifting platforms.

  • New spaces in the HPER Building, including the Sports Injury Clinic, UREC Train Studio, UREC Cycle Studio, UREC Functional Training locations and enhanced study and social spaces in the 2nd and 3rd floor hallways.

  • Increased operating hours to begin opening at 5:30 a.m. in the HPER Building and staying open until midnight throughout the fall/spring semesters. Additionally, the HPER is closed fewer than 10 days in a given calendar year to allow for maximum usage for its members.

In addition to these large projects, UREC has renovated the track, climbing and bouldering walls; updated facility space for gathering; added free-to-use lockers; and continues to update outdoor, group fitness, facility and fitness equipment on an annual basis that is available to all members.
