Registration Open for Engineering Summer Camps

The U of A College of Engineering has opened registration for its popular camps held on campus and around the state this summer.

This year's offerings serve students currently in first through 11th grade and are designed to introduce engineering through hands-on activities that are both fun and educational. The camps take place in Batesville, Blytheville, Camden, Fayetteville, Harrison, Mena, Morrilton and Newport.

Due to high demand, the college will offer two sessions of Discover Engineering and Explore Engineering, both hosted on the U of A campus in Fayetteville.

The college offers need-based scholarships to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch at their public schools or have extenuating financial circumstances. Applicants should indicate interest in being considered for a scholarship on the application and submit the required documentation either within the application or to engrcamp@uark.edu.

Here is a brief overview of the camps:

Discover Engineering Camp
Current fifth- and sixth-grade students are invited to dream, design and discover at this week-long day camp. Students will explore the many exciting areas of engineering with fun, hands-on activities. This year's theme is "World of Wizardry." This camp is offered in Fayetteville; Session A is June 5-9 and Session B is June 26-30.

Explore Engineering Camp
Current seventh and eighth graders are invited to dive deeper into the different fields of engineering in this week-long day camp. This year's theme is "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind."  This camp is offered in Fayetteville; Session A is June 12-16 and Session B is July 17-21.

Inside Engineering Camp
Engineer like a professional at our Inside Engineering week-long day camps offered to students who are current fifth- through eighth-grade students. During this camp, students will have the opportunity to apply engineering concepts from multiple fields to a real-world problem. This year's theme is "Olympics." These camps are offered in Batesville June 19-23, Blytheville June 19-23, Camden June 12-16, Harrison June 5-9, Mena July 10-14, Morrilton July 17-21 and Newport June 26-30.

GirlTREC Camp
Current fifth- and sixth-grade girls are invited to spend a week on the U of A campus participating in hands-on activities related to transportation — from roads to railroads to waterways — in a camp funded by a U.S. Department of Transportation grant. In addition to engineering activities, students will participate in field trips and will have the opportunity to meet with women in engineering. This camp is offered in Fayetteville July 10-14.

Soaring High in Engineering (SHE) Camp
Current seventh- and eighth-grade girls are invited to participate in hands-on engaging activities designed to allow them to explore the many fields of engineering while also working toward solutions for real-world problems. In addition to engineering activities, students will participate in field trips and will have the opportunity to meet with women in engineering. This year's theme is "Woo Pig Foodie!" These camps are offered in Fayetteville June 19-23.

FIRST LEGO League, Jr. Camps
Current first- through third-grade students are invited to participate week-long FIRST LEGO League, Jr. program from design to presentation. This camp is offered in Fayetteville in morning and afternoon sessions July 24-28. These are half-day camps, and multiple sessions are offered. Please see our website for full information. Please note: The FIRST LEGO League, Jr. camp activities require that students can read and understand written instructions and conduct basic online research. Please keep your child's reading level in mind when deciding to apply.

Engineering Summer Academy
Current ninth- through 11th-grade students are invited to participate in this week-long residential camp that allows students to explore their interests in an interdisciplinary track with College of Engineering faculty and students on the Fayetteville campus July 23-29. Students will select one of the following courses: 1) ChemE, 2) Living Systems, 3) Machine Learning or 4) Non-Living Systems.
