Learn How to Save a Life With CAPS QPR Training

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The Public Health Student Association aims to increase awareness shifting the stigma in discussing the 12th leading cause of death in the United States.

A representative from the Counseling and Psychological Services department of the Pat Walker Health Center will lead the QPR training, which stands for: Question, Persuade and Refer, the three steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. The event will be held from 4-5 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 28, inside Mullins Library room 449. The Public Health Student Association will offer volunteer hours for those attending the event. 

During this time, attendees will learn about warning signs and methods for persuading individuals to seek out help. Additionally, the CAPS representative will any answer any questions regarding suicide. The training is available to all students at the U of A. Learning the three steps can help save a life. For more information regarding QPR training, all inquiries can be made to Pat Walker Health Center's Counseling and Psychological Services at 479-575-5276. CAPS is located on the second floor of the Pat Walker Health Center.
