Last Week to Apply to Be a Career Peer Mentor

The Career Studio, a service provided by the Career Development Center, is now hiring Career Peer Mentors for the 2022-23 academic year. Applications are due this Friday, April 8.

Career Peer Mentors provide one-on-one and group advising/coaching in a variety of career-related areas, including resume and cover letter reviews, interview tips and mock interviews, and basic job/internship search assistance, among others.

The Career Studio is looking for undergraduate (sophomores and higher) and graduate students from various academic disciplines who are outgoing, friendly and reliable with great interpersonal skills, who are looking for an opportunity to motivate their peers to set and achieve their career goals. Preference for the 2022-23 academic year will be given to sophomores, juniors, seniors and first-year graduate students. Seniors are encouraged to apply if they are May 2023 graduates.

Responsibilities of a Career Peer Mentor:

  • Answer questions about how students may utilize the University Career Development Center
  • Meet with students in the Career Studio, providing guidance with resumes, cover letters, interviewing, job/internship resources, LinkedIn, career fair information and other career-related topics
  • Participate in and assist with University Career Development Center programs such as career fairs or seminars
  • Work on independent and team projects

Qualifications needed in a Career Peer Mentor:

  • Possess at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA each semester
  • Available up to 15 hours/week during Career Studio hours (Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Strong in areas imperative to assisting/advising U of A students, particularly: communication, mentoring, problem-solving and the ability to work independently
  • In addition, Career Peer Mentors must be a sophomore, junior, May 2023 senior or first-year graduate student at the time of employment (August 2022).
