GIS Day Open House at Mullins Library on Wednesday, Nov. 16
The University Libraries will host an Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on GIS Day, Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Mullins Library 303B. GIS Day is an annual, internationally-recognized event promoting Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology and the importance of geography in society. The open house event will include a book display, posters, videos, hands-on applications, and interactive demonstrations.
From noon to 12:30 p.m., Jason Tullis, associate professor in geosciences and member of the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies, and students from the Geospatial Unmanned Aircraft Systems class will give an overview of Geospatial Unmanned Aircraft Systems featuring a static demonstration of a UAS vehicle.
From 12:30 pm to 1 p.m., Winifred E. Newman, head of the Department of Architecture, will give a presentation titled "Data Visualization: Organizing the Map," which will focus on the ways mapping techniques can structure information in a variety of disciplines.
Anyone interested in learning more about GIS is welcome to stop by MULN 303B for the open house and/or speakers. Light refreshments will be served.
