Music Professor Awarded Second Emmy

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – James Greeson, professor of music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, was honored by the National Academy of Arts and Sciences with an Emmy for Musical Composition/Arrangement for his original score in the documentary film Up Among the Hills: The story of Fayetteville. Greeson accepted the award at the 37th Annual Mid-America Emmy Gala in St. Louis, Mo.

"It's nice to be recognized by people in the industry," said Greeson. "I'm happy that this lovely documentary got some well-deserved attention. I've worked several times over the years with Larry Foley and Hayot Tuychiev. It's always a pleasure and a learning experience."

Up Among the Hills was written and directed by Foley, professor of journalism, and Tuychiev, instructor of journalism served as the film's cinematographer and editor. The one-hour documentary on the history of Fayetteville, Ark., was narrated by former Fayetteville resident President Bill Clinton. It has been screened at the Hot Springs Film Festival, Little Rock Film Festival and Fayetteville Public Library and has been broadcast on the Arkansas Educational Television Network. In addition to Greeson's nomination, Tuychiev was nominated in the Editor-Program and Photographer-Program categories.

"I had a very strong feeling that Jim would win an Emmy for Up Among the Hills," said Foley. "His work on my films is always good, but his score for this film was superb—some of his best work ever. I'm so happy for Jim. He is a wonderfully talented man and a great friend."

This is Greeson's second Emmy award. He won in the same category in 2009 for his work in The Buffalo Flows: The story of our first national river, which was also written and directed by Foley.

The 37th Mid-America Emmy Gala was held Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis. Mid-America Emmy is a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Their mission is to encourage excellence in the television community by presenting regional Emmy awards and other accolades.
