The office of vice provost of research and economic development at the University of Arkansas has posted important news on its website related to across-the-board federal budget cuts known as sequestration, which are scheduled to take effect Friday, March 1.

Agency announcements from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, in addition to policy guidance from the federal office of management and budget, can be found at vpred.uark.edu.

“We are uncertain of the impact of the pending sequestration on ongoing and future research efforts at the University of Arkansas,” said Jim Rankin, vice provost for research and economic development. “Our office is monitoring the situation closely.”

If an agreement is not reached by Friday, President Barack Obama will be required to issue an order that will implement the spending cuts. As a result, fiscal year 2013 appropriations of most federal agencies will be reduced.
