IT Services at the U of A has begun a modernization effort to meet the growing needs of a modern university.
The IT modernization project is a collaborative, cross-campus effort to strengthen how technology supports student learning, research and daily work across the university. The goal of this effort is to create a more consistent and reliable experience within centralized and distributed IT units across campus.
This strategic effort focuses on improving how IT is organized, aligned and delivered while preserving the flexibility colleges and units need to support their missions.
The Provost's Office is the executive sponsor of this effort. Cross-campus working groups will advise and advance the continued direction of modernization, including a deep-dive into operations, resources, governance and more.
IT Services is committed to transparency as the modernization effort takes shape. Major decisions will be informed through established governance processes with campus representation and will not be made in isolation.
Last month, IT Services launched a website detailing the modernization effort, including a timeline for the next several months.
This initiative is organized around three core focus areas, or pillars:
- IT Strategy & Governance: This pillar establishes clearer direction, stronger governance and better campus partnership so technology decisions align with university priorities.
- IT Resource Model: This pillar focuses on a more aligned IT organization with shared accountability and stronger stewardship of technology resources.
- IT Services & Technology: This pillar advances a service-focused IT model with more consistent support, stronger security and data practices, and a more sustainable technology environment.
Together, these pillars create a more coordinated, service-oriented and sustainable future for IT Services at the U of A.
The campus community is encouraged to visit the IT modernization website to learn more. Those with questions or feedback about IT modernization can email itmodernization@uark.edu.
