"Korean for Travelers" will teach students beginners Korean, focusing on essential expressions for traveling in Korea.

This semester, Professor Sung Hye Yang will teach an eight-week Korean course on learning Korean for those who wish to travel to Korean-speaking countries called Korean for Travelers (WLLC 398V-015: Special Studies). This course is designed for complete beginners and will center on practical, travel-oriented Korean.

The growing interest in the Korean language has led many universities to expand their courses in Korean language and culture, and last semester, the U of A offered Korean for the first time in its history. This semester, Yang will be introducing the Korean language to students interested in learning essential expressions for traveling.

Korean for Travelers will also focus on cultural etiquette and common conversational patterns needed to navigate Korea confidently. Students will learn how to order food, ask for directions, use transportation, shop, check into lodging and interact appropriately in Korean cultural settings. Hands-on cultural activities and situational speaking tasks will be integrated throughout the course.
