After almost a decade taking care of patients at Pat Walker Health Center's GYN (Women's) Clinic, Georgiann Weaver, A.P.R.N., is retiring Jan. 7, 2026.

Her career at the U of A has left a lasting impact on students, faculty and staff — through her teaching, campus presentations and the compassionate care she provided to so many.

Looking back, a common thread throughout Weaver's career is her love of educating others.

That passion for teaching started early in Weaver's career as a childbirth educator and later as a certified nurse midwife. Wanting to focus on gynecology, Weaver spent many years in private practice. During this time, she also began working as an A.P.R.N. at a small university.

It was there that she discovered collegiate health was her true calling.

"There is so much that young people need to learn about themselves and the health care system," Weaver said. "I love educating."

While working at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Croix, she learned of the opportunity at the U of A.

"I had previously worked as a women's health nurse practitioner at a small college in Florida and wanted to work at a larger university health center," she said.

Joining the U of A in 2016, Weaver continued to follow her love of educating others.

"While at the university, I've taught classes for both University Perspectives and Mechanisms of Pathology," she said. "I've also spoken to different groups on campus, visited residence halls and participated in many different tabling sessions speaking about STI and pregnancy prevention."

A member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Weaver was one of the founding members of the Pat Walker Health Center Community, Acceptance and Belonging Group. Her commitment to inclusion is evident in her practice, where she strives to provide a safe and welcoming space for every patient regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, relationship status or body size.

A.J. Olsen, director of medical services for the health center, shared Weaver's impact as a long-standing member of the center's Risk Management Committee and her contributions to the Community, Acceptance and Belonging Group alongside Debbie Deere, M.D.  Weaver also serves on the leadership team of the Sexual Health Organization and Outreach, a registered student organization.

"My greatest feelings of satisfaction have come from my graduating seniors who let me know what a difference I've made in their lives and how sad they are that they can no longer see me for their health care needs," she said. "It has been my honor to care for all of my patients."

Medical Director Huda Sharf, M.D., echoed those sentiments: "Georgiann's compassion, expertise and steady presence have shaped our GYN clinic for more than nine years, and her impact will be felt for many years to come."

"I have made some lifelong friends here," Weaver said, noting the camaraderie and friendships that have held special meaning during her time at the university. "They have helped make my career meaningful, unforgettable and often hilarious in ways I will cherish forever."

Looking ahead to retirement, Weaver plans to stay in Northwest Arkansas, travel and devote more time to caring for herself.

"I love to hike and kayak, so I'll be spending more time doing those things," she said. "I'm also planning to travel. I have children from California to Florida and will be spending more time with them, as well as with my grandchildren in Florida."

Although it is hard to say good-bye to someone who has left such a meaningful mark, Sharaf sums up the feelings of many: "Thank you for caring so deeply for our patients and for all of us. We will miss you greatly, and we wish you a beautiful, fulfilling retirement."
