Celebrate Latine/Hispanic Heritage Month at the University of Arkansas

The Latine/Hispanic Heritage Month Calendar Committee proudly presents Nuevos Horizontes: Shaping the Future, a calendar featuring a variety of events, workshops, and social gatherings that offer the university community and the community at large opportunities to engage with Latin American cultures during National Hispanic Heritage Month. 

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15 to October 15 to recognize the many contributions of Latin American and Latine figures to the United States. The month encompasses the independence dates of several Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on September 15; Mexico on September 16; Chile on September 18; and Belize on September 21. 

With more than 3,000 Latine/x students attending the University of Arkansas and 14 Latine-based registered student organizations at the university, campus life for Latina/o/e students is flourishing. 2024 marks a peak moment in history for Latine/x Razorbacks—an achievement of a new horizon ("un nuevo horizonte"). The Latine/Hispanic Heritage Month Calendar Committee recognizes that everyday actions and relationship building at the university are inextricably bound up in shaping a future promising many more nuevos horizontes for Latine/x Razorbacks.

Latine First Friday

The Latine First Friday celebration engaged students in a celebration of Latin American cultures through salsa, bachata, and merengue dance instruction from En Fuego Dance & Fitness and pupusas and arepas from La Sirenita and Na'Guara. Creative Writing in Spanish Workshop

Millas con MXSA x CASA

Dance Class with PSO

The Panamanian Student Organization is hosting a dance class to show everybody the traditional rhythms and moves from Panama. Participants will be able to learn basic steps of dances such as El punto, immersing themselves in the cultural heritage of Panama.
