Faculty Senate Presents Clicker Recommendation and Needs Campus Feedback

In spring 2023, the Faculty Senate was asked to review solutions for in-class student response systems, also known as clickers, at the request of the Associated Student Government and the Office of the Provost.

As part of this review process, the Faculty Senate recently recommended that the university identify and adopt a single campuswide tool that meets the latest needs of the U of A campus, which will include evaluating the university's current vendor as well as other vendors.

Before pursuing a change to the current solution, the university would like to gather additional feedback from faculty and students on what features the student response system should include. Students can provide feedback by taking this survey, and faculty can provide feedback by taking this survey. The surveys will be open through April 22. All responses will be kept completely confidential and will only be used for internal purposes.

Clickers and student response systems are useful teaching tools for faculty and help collect feedback from students in real time. This feedback includes polls, multiple-choice questions and several other question types.

Last year, the Faculty Senate created an Ad Hoc Clicker Review Committee, which included ASG representation, to investigate and provide a recommendation on a cost-effective solution that supports the university's overall teaching mission and student success goals.

The Provost's Office and Faculty Senate will provide more information after the surveys conclude.
