The University of Arkansas, in partnership with SmithGroup, is conducting a 12-month study to evaluate how classroom, research, and administrative space is used across campus.

As part of this study, representatives from the U of A Facilities Management, the Office of the Provost and SmithGroup will be visiting more than 100 buildings on campus to gather information, which will include taking pictures and measurements of different spaces. Faculty, staff and students will also be asked to provide feedback on how space is used as part of this study.

The first campus visit began on Jan. 2 and will continue through Jan. 12. Additional visits will be planned throughout the year, and building executives will be notified prior to each visit.  The campus community will also be notified before each visit through Arkansas News.

"This study will help us see how we can better support our students, further our research initiatives and improve administrative spaces as part of our overall strategic plan," said Vice Provost for Planning Colleen Briney. "We hope this study will also help us determine how we can improve our space management system, overall space data collection process, policies and procedures to better serve our campus community."
