Rabia Shattuck has been named Employee of the First Quarter by the U of A Global Campus.

Shattuck is the customer relationship management coordinator on the Recruitment and Outreach team at Global Campus. She was nominated for her outstanding technical work that helped pave the way for a select group of new U of A students to use their employee benefits to pay for college. Work by Shattuck and many others made it possible for Walmart and Sam's Club associates and Tyson Foods team members to go through Guild Corporation to use their employee benefits to pay for education at the U of A. Guild is a public benefit corporation designed to help companies provide education and career opportunities for employees.

Shattuck coordinates Slate, the customer relationship management system used by Global Campus to support potential and current students as well as faculty and staff for online programs. The Global Campus responds to student requests to get information about online degree programs and assists students through the application process. Shattuck helped connect Slate with Guild's system.

"Thank you to those who nominated me!" Shattuck said. "I love what I do in my position at Global Campus! Our team is wonderful, and I greatly appreciate how collaborative we are."

Co-workers who nominated Shattuck praised both her dedication to her work and her willingness to assist others.

"Anytime I have a question about the smallest Slate process, she answers promptly and volunteers a detailed explanation so that it makes sense to me," Shattuck's co-worker said. "She is willing to explain things to those of us with less experience without making us feel unintelligent. She responds with a smile and an attitude of 'we will make this work!' She is always very positive. I appreciate her so very much."

Patty Milner, assistant vice provost for student outreach and innovation at Global Campus, serves as Shattuck's immediate supervisor.

"Rabia is such a tremendous asset, not just to Global Campus, but to the Slate-user communities across campus," Milner said. "This summer, in addition to her regular role managing Global Campus-related Slate operations in the undergraduate and graduate admission instances of Slate, she also designed and built the Guild operations in the Professional and Workforce Development instance from the ground up and provided technical support for other Slate-user offices during vacancies in their teams. Her commitment to service and excellence cannot be overstated."

Shattuck began working at the U of A's Graduate School and International Education in 2017. She moved to her current position at Global Campus in 2021.

The Global Campus awards the Employee of the Quarter to recognize outstanding achievements and accomplishments that relate to the unit's goals and the U of A mission. The award recipient receives a commemorative certificate and a monetary award. The four quarterly awardees may then be eligible to become the Global Campus Employee of the Year.

Other first quarter nominees:

  • Suzanne Kenner — online program manager, Instructional Design and Support Services
  • Justin Mazzanti — building specialist, Technology Services
  • Camie Wood — instructional designer, Instructional Design and Support Services

The Global Campus supports the U of A academic colleges and schools in the development and delivery of online degree programs and courses, self-paced online courses and workforce development programs. This unit provides instructional design services, learning technology support, media production services and assistance with financial administration, recruitment and marketing.

The Global Campus also supports the W.E. Manning Memorial Scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students studying in online degree programs.
