Research Technologist Named Engineering Employee of the Quarter

Jason Crawley, a scientific research technologist with the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, has been selected Employee of the First Quarter for the College of Engineering.

Crawley was supported by 10 nominations from his department, including staff, faculty and the department head, Jia Di.

Crawley began work at the College of Engineering as a student and has been a scientific research technician for about 10 years. Co-workers complimented his helpfulness, work ethic and technical skills and for going above and beyond regularly, including working outside his normal hours when problems arise.

"As a tech support person in our ultra-computer-heavy department, Jason has done a great job to make sure IT equipment for teaching and research is always operating," Di said.

Crawley's supervisor, George Holmes, master scientific research tech, said Crawley is often on call and is quick to jump into crisis situations.

"In all of those times, he has been effective and thorough, careful and courteous, always aiming to solve the problems and meet the expectations of faculty, students and staff, and all while maintaining a positive attitude. The department has grown dramatically, yet his work continues to impress," he wrote.

Assistant professor Yarui Peng said Crawley helps him maintain 10 high-performance computing servers for teaching and research, addressing requests timely and professionally.

"Jason is always responsive and helpful whenever needed. He truly deserves recognition as a most valued employee," Peng said.

In his nomination, assistant professor Lu Zhang thanked Crawley for his work setting up and testing machines and software for the Engineering Summer Academy.

"The ESA was a great success, and I heard great things from all the participants, and we could not have made it without Jason. We are truly lucky to have him as part of the department," he wrote.

The Employee of the Quarter award comes with a monetary prize and certificate.
