Get Involved with University Programs
Do you want to learn about event planning and help bring fun, creative, educational events to campus? University Programs is for you!
University Programs is a student-led organization within the Office of Student Activities that creates engaging events for all students. UP consists of eight committees that focus on different types of programming. All events are funded by the student activities fee, and UP plans an array of events for students such as concerts, movie nights, spring carnival, DIY soap kits, floral arrangement class and the list goes on! There are two ways you can get involved with UP:
UPStart: What you can expect from UPstart? UPstart is a program run by University Programs and will meet every other Thursday from 6-7:30pm (attendance is required). It will be a welcoming environment where you are encouraged, cared for and challenged. Our hope is that we can provide you with the mentorship and skills you need to grow as a leader and student. UPstart will specifically focus on teaching incoming student leaders about the event planning process on our campus and developing strong leadership skills you can use during your tenure at the U of A. Applications are due by noon on Wednesday, Sept. 8. We look forward to reviewing your application!
UP Membership: UP members serve on one of the eight committees: Comedy, Cultures & Concepts, Daytime, Digital Entertainment, Music, Traditions, Visual & Performing Arts and Public Relations. These committees choose the programs that are brought to campus within each area. Students can apply to become a UP member at any time throughout the academic year.
If you have any questions about either application, please reach out to the UP president, Fern Alcantara, at uppres@uark.edu.
University Programs is a volunteer student organization responsible for coordinating and planning over 100 events annually for the campus community. University Programs provides U of A students with cultural, educational, recreational and entertainment experiences. Eight committees, along with committee chairs and their executive officers, select, schedule and produce events such as concerts, movies, lectures, fine arts performances and gallery exhibits. University Programs provides excellent opportunities to develop leadership skills and to gain practical experience in a variety of areas. Supported by an activity fee instituted in 1988, the events are free to the student body. Questions about UP can be directed to 479-575-5255, osa@uark.edu or up.uark.edu.
