U of A Observes National Disability Awareness Month Starting Oct. 3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The U of A Center for Educational Access and other campus partners are teaming with Northwest Arkansas’ Sources for Community Independent Living Services for a series of events to celebrate Disability Awareness Month.

This annual observation takes place in October to mark the adoption of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and to raise awareness about issues and varied contributions of individuals with disabilities. 

The entire campus community is invited to participate in any or all of these free events:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 3: 10:30 a.m.–1p.m., Community Resource Fair & Art Exhibit, at the Union International Connections Lounge
  • Saturday, Oct. 7: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Inclusive Tandem Bike Ride, Roll, Walk, Run at The Village at Skull Creek
  • Sunday, Oct. 8: noon- 5 p.m., Crystal Bridges Family Sunday – Art for All, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
  • Tuesday, Oct. 10: 3:30-5:30 p.m., Sources Tai Chi Class, The Village at Skull Creek
  • Wednesday, Oct. 11: 1-4 p.m., Career Development Center Career Fair – nonprofit, government and helping professions, Union Verizon Ballroom
  • Wednesday, Oct. 11: 5–7 p.m., UREC Wheelchair Basketball Exhibition Game, HPER Gym 2
  • Thursday, Oct. 12: 1-4 p.m., Career Development Center Career Fair – media, communication and design, Union Verizon Ballroom
  • Friday, Oct. 20: 10 a.m.-noon, NanoTec assistive technology demonstration, Arkansas Union 514
  • Wednesday, Oct. 25: 10 a.m.- noon, and 1-3 p.m., Career Development Center Career Fair – Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences; Arkansas Union Verizon Ballroom
  • Wednesday, Oct. 25: 10-11 a.m., Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance disability sensitivity training, Mullins Library 104
