Sing Along to Karaoke Favorites With the Razorback Marching Band at War Memorial Stadium

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorback Marching Band will continue its season as the Arkansas Razorbacks take on the No. 10 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 18, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The band’s Karaoke Favorites show will feature popular hits, and fans are encouraged to sing along during the performance.

The show will begin with the classic progressive rock hit Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas. Released in 1976, the song quickly became the group’s first Billboard Top 40 success. Jamal Duncan, assistant director of the Razorback Marching Band, arranged the piece and designed the drill.

The show will continue with Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. The arrangement by Andrew Putnam, visiting assistant professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, highlights the songs most recognizable passages. Released as a single in 1969, the song reached No. 4 on the Billboard chart, went platinum and has sold 1.7 million digital copies as of April 2013.

The show will conclude with Friends In Low Places by Garth Brooks. Released in 1990, the song garnered massive critical acclaim and commercial success. The song spent four weeks at No. 1 on the country music charts and was named 1990 single of the year by both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. The marching band will play a custom arrangement by David Gorham, University of Arkansas alumnus and former director of the Pride of Owasso marching band.

“I’m very excited for the chance to perform for the crowd in Little Rock” said Sydney Witt, freshman clarinet player. “It’ll be my first performance at War Memorial. I expect it to be extremely loud, as it’s the only game in Little Rock this year, and it should be insane. I hope people immediately recognize and sing along with all of the songs, but especially Sweet Caroline. It’s just one of those songs everyone knows the words to.”

The Razorback Marching Band, part of the Department of Music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, has more than 330 student members representing every college within the university.
