Garland Center Receives Award From International Parking Institute

The Garland Center at the University of Arkansas received the Award of Merit from the International Parking Institute at the group’s 2012 Conference and Vendor Show in June. The award was based on the design of the parking garage and the integration of retail space into the facility.

The Garland Avenue Parking Garage is a six-level facility with 1,500 parking spaces combined with the 32,000-square-foot University Bookstore and an additional 20,000 square feet of retail space. Retail tenants include Belle Boutique, Enrich Salon, First Security Bank, Lewis & Clark, Mertins Eye Clinic, Subway, TCBY and Walmart.

The garage has metered parking for visitors, permit parking for students and employees and free 45-minute parking for retail customers. The parking meters accept bills, coins, Razorbucks and Parkmobile pay-by-cell payments.

Garland Garage security includes blue light emergency pedestals, CCTV and perimeter barriers as well as natural and artificial lighting. The light well, located in the center of the facility, allows natural light to enter the garage on all levels and provides light for landscaping within the garage on the first floor.
