FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tony Myers has been named the new associate director of admissions for the transfer central office. This position was established about a year ago to help recruit transfer students to the University of Arkansas and to make these transitions a smooth and positive experience. He follows Amber Roth, who is now taking a leadership role in orientation.

Like many of the students he will be recruiting, Myers has a unique and impressive educational background, starting in the U.S. Air Force where he accumulated a variety of college credits. After Tony left the Air Force he enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi and later transferred to Barton Community College. At Barton, he received his associate degree of arts of general studies. His next phase of education took place at Southwestern College in Kansas where Tony received his bachelor’s degrees in business. While working at Friends University, Myers earned an undergraduate degree in computer information systems and an Master of Business Administration and is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education at the University of Arkansas.

Because Myers has studied on a variety of college campuses, he feels he is a “true transfer student” and will be able to relate to transfer students.

Aside from his educational background, he has extensive experience with college admissions. He spent 13 years working as an executive director of admissions and enrollment services. Tony has also spent time with two other institutions, as an administrator and teaching in the business college as well as advising students. Throughout the past 15 years, he has gained valuable knowledge recruiting transfer students that he feels this will be a big advantage in creating a transfer student strategy here at the University of Arkansas.

Myers said he is “always curious about how we can create better paths for incoming transfer students.” He recognizes that “it can be very difficult for students who move from one campus culture to another,” and said that he “wants to do his best with assisting transfer students as much as possible” and truly wants to help them have a positive transition. The number of transfer students at the University of Arkansas has increased, and Myers is enthusiastic to keep that number growing and is committed to making a transition to the University of Arkansas a positive experience. Myers reports to Suzanne McCray, dean of admissions and vice provost for enrollment.

“I am delighted that Tony Myers is joining the admissions team as the coordinator of our transfer recruitment efforts," McCray said. "We had already made great strides with Amber Roth at the helm. With her move to an orientation leadership role, we had a hole to fill. He knows the right questions to ask, and the right approach to take. He will be a very helpful resource for students wanting to transfer, for advisers at two-year colleges requesting information, and for administrators at these institutions seeking to build bridge programs.”
