FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A $100,000 bequest from the late Ada Anderson will help students in the University of Arkansas Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences obtain a college degree.

The T.C. and Ada Anderson Scholarship in Bumpers College will provide financial support for a qualified student enrolled in any area of Bumpers College.

UA Chancellor John A. White said, "We are grateful when people remember the University of Arkansas in their estate planning. Mrs. Anderson chose to honor the college where her husband earned his degree by creating a scholarship endowment. By doing so, she has helped ensure that deserving students will be provided opportunities to obtain an education at the University of Arkansas."

Greg Weidemann, dean of Bumpers College, said, "Thanks to Mrs. Anderson’s generous bequest to Bumpers College, we will have the resources to attract more students to our college and the means for supporting them as they earn their degrees. I believe T.C. Anderson would have been pleased to know that his wife made this provision to support his alma mater."

Ada Anderson and her husband Tyrrell Anderson lived in Northwest Arkansas all their lives. Ada spent 35 years as a court reporter for the 4^th Chancery Circuit of Arkansas, which included courts in Madison, Carroll and Benton counties, before her retirement in 1980. She was born and reared in the Zion Community. She enjoyed genealogy and worked toward completing her husband’s family histories in her retirement. She died earlier this year.

Her husband Tyrrell was a 1956 graduate of Bumpers College, taught school for 17 years and was engaged in raising livestock. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion, the Razorback Club and the Cattlemen’s Association. He died in 1993.

This bequest counts toward the $300 Million Challenge, the campaign-within-a-campaign. The purpose of the Challenge is to raise $300 million for academic purposes to match the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation’s $300 million gift. Challenge funds must be raised between Jan. 1, 2002, and June 30, 2005, the end of the Campaign. The Challenge total stands at $141 million, and the overall Campaign total stands at $770 million as of Nov. 30, 2003.
