Fulbright College Names Student Ambassadors For 2002-2003
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Student ambassadors for the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas have been chosen for 2002-2003.
They include junior Taneem Ibrahim, a computer science and math major from Bangladesh, Senior Zachary Johnson, a political science and international relations major from Lincoln, Arkansas, junior Courtney Lawrence, a journalism and Middle Eastern studies major from Mountain Home, Arkansas, senior Amy Mason, a microbiology and pre-medicine major from Fort Smith, Arkansas, senior Nicole Roberts, a biology and pre-medicine major from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and senior Steven Snyder, a political science and legal studies major from Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Student ambassadors serve the College throughout the year, assisting with recruiting events both on and off campus, offering tours of Old Main, and corresponding with prospective students. They will also be visiting First-Year Experience classes this fall, to offer advice to new freshmen about making a successful transition to college life.
"I saw the Fulbright student ambassadorship as an opportunity to give back to a College that has given me so much, and if I could, to help my fellow students in their academic pursuits," said Danielle Davis, an ambassador during 2001-2002.
The student ambassador program is coordinated by the Fulbright College Advising Center and managed by Barbara Goodman, an academic counselor. Program applicants are among some of the top students in Fulbright College. Selection is based on academic performance, University and College involvement, diversity of academic interests, and communication skills. As representatives of the College, the ambassadors present to prospective students and their parents the philosophy and benefits of a liberal arts education at the University of Arkansas.
"The Fulbright College student ambassadors offer a different, more personal perspective than that of a staff or faculty member," said Dave Dawson, director of the Advising Center. "They are inspiring in how seriously they take their duties as representatives of Fulbright College."
