Freeman Named Director of Arkansas Union

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas and the Division of Student Affairs are pleased to announce that Jerrid Freeman has been named the new director of the Arkansas Union, effective Nov. 15.

Freeman currently serves as the associate director of residence life operations and information management at Elon University. His current duties involve management of the daily operations of on-campus residence halls and apartments for approximately 3,000 students and administering departmental functions for assignments, marketing, communications, billing, safety and security, policies and procedures, departmental technology, and short- and long-range planning.

“Jerrid Freeman brings a perfect blend of higher education training, operations management experience and commitment to student development that will contribute to his success at the Arkansas Union,” said Ashley Tull, associate dean of students for Campus Life. “I am pleased that he is joining the University of Arkansas family and the Division of Student Affairs, and I look forward to his work with the Arkansas Union staff and students of the University of Arkansas.”

Freeman’s responsibilities as director of the Arkansas Union will include the coordination and implementation of strategic planning and business plan efforts; policy and procedure development, implementation and communication; and financial and procurement management. The director leads a staff in the areas of accounting, building operations, reservations and event services, information services and tenant relations.

Freeman said, “I am honored to be chosen as the director of the Arkansas Union. I am excited to utilize the talents and ideas of the current Union staff, enhance the potential of the Union facility, and develop relationships with faculty, staff, students and contract services to serve the needs of the Arkansas community. I look forward to being part of the University of Arkansas’s future.”

Prior to joining the staff of Elon University, Freeman held several professional positions in student affairs. Those included serving as community director and area director of Housing and Residential Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; residence hall director in the Office of Residence Life at Bowling Green State University; and assistant hall director and hall director of Residential and Greek Life at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Freeman earned a bachelor of science in secondary mathematics and physics education, with an endorsement in coaching from the University of Nebraska at Kearney; a master of arts in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University; and a doctorate in higher education administration from North Carolina State University.

Professionally, Freeman is an active member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, where he has previously served as chair of the national volunteer committee.

Freeman is married to Carie J. Freeman who is currently the Office Manager for the Associate Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance at The University of North Carolina. They were both born and raised in Nebraska and are excited to become part of the Fayetteville and University of Arkansas communities.
