Director of Financial Aid Named at University of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Kattie Wing, the interim director of financial aid at the University of Arkansas, can remove the “interim” from her title. Following a national search that lasted nearly two years, Wing has been selected as the permanent director.

“I am delighted that Kattie Wing was chosen,” said Bob Smith, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Several other candidates were considered as well, but there was outstanding support for Kattie, both in the campus community and on the search committee. She is very respected statewide, is developing a national reputation as well and she brings a unique degree of institutional memory to the position.”

Wing holds a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and an Master of Education in educational counseling from the University of Arkansas. She taught for six years in Madison and Washington County schools before joining the financial aid department in 1988. She first served as interim director from 1998-2001, then again starting in 2006.

“Few professions help people attain their dream,” said Wing. “I am thankful that I can play a small part in fulfilling student dreams by reducing their financial burden and supporting their future. I love to stand outside Hunt Hall and watch students pass by, going to and from class, wondering what they will accomplish with their education.”
