FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Jamie B. Banks of Fayetteville, Ark., has been appointed to be director of development for the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, effective March 17, 2003.

Banks is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a master’s degree in public administration. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Westminster College, Fulton, Mo. She worked as a fund-raiser for the Mark Pryor U.S. Senate campaign and the Blanche Lincoln U.S. Senate campaign. She is the former deputy director of statewide outreach for Lincoln. Her prior experience includes working for the Lincoln Senate campaign, the John Edwards for U.S. Congress campaign and working on the U.S. Senate Armed Services committee as a staff assistant.

She has been involved with the Little Rock community as a member of the Junior League and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

"I am extremely pleased that Jamie will be joining the College," said Reed Greenwood, dean of the College of Education and Health Professions. "She brings a decade of public affairs skills and a breadth of fund-raising and special event planning experience to the University of Arkansas."

The primary responsibility of the director of development for the College is to secure private sector funding, to foster relationships and to plan and implement the unit’s fund-raising priorities and institutional advancement activities. This position reports to Greenwood, and to Clay Edwards, assistant vice chancellor of University Development.

Clay Edwards, assistant vice chancellor for development, said, "A critical mission of this College is to provide service to the state and region, and private support has been a key to the success it enjoys today. Jamie brings the enthusiasm we need to continue the fine efforts of the faculty and staff of the College of Education and Health Professions. The citizens of Arkansas benefit every day from these contributions."

Banks said, "I’m looking forward to joining the College of Education and Health Professions during this exciting time. There’s so much potential to expand the support base for the College’s academic programs and I’m looking forward to building new relationships with alumni and friends while strengthening the College’s existing relationships."
