Cihak New Director of the Young Law Library
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Herbert E. Cihak recently was named director of the Robert A. and Vivian Young Law Library at the University of Arkansas, where he also will serve as a professor of law.
Cihak came to the U of A after serving as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Library and Information Technology at the Louisiana State University Law Center from 2001 until 2004. He has a J.D. from the University of Nebraska and master's degrees in political science and library science from Brigham Young University.
Cihak was director of the law library and associate professor of law at the University of Kentucky (1994-1997) and subsequently served as chief information officer and professor of law at the UK school from 1997 to 2001. From 1988 to 1994, he was affiliated with the University of Mississippi as head of public services and assumed the position of director of the law library and assistant professor of law in 1991. Prior law library service includes work in Oklahoma, Texas and California.
Cihak has presented numerous state, regional and national programs on library and information technology issues and has written extensively on library management and marketing. His 2002 book, "Leadership Roles For Librarians" has been designated an American Association of Law Libraries Series Publication. He served as president of the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries in 2001-2002.
At the University of Arkansas, Cihak replaces Lorraine Lorne, who had served as the law library's interim director since 2002. Lorne returns to the position of head of technical services at the law school.
