Brown Receives Honor From National Association

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — William D. Brown, associate dean for research and University professor of electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, has been selected to receive the Outstanding Leadership and Service Award from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA). The annual award is presented to an individual who has a sustained record of leadership and service to ECEDHA and to electrical and computer engineering.

Brown joined the UA electrical engineering faculty in 1977 and served as head of the department from 1983 until 1998. In 1991 he established the High Density Electronics Center (HiDEC) and served as its first director. He was named Associate Dean for Research for the College in 1999. While department head he served in a number of ECEDHA leadership roles and was president of the organization from 1997-1998.

He is a member of a number of professional organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS), the Materials Research Society (MRS), the American Vacuum Society (AVS), the Arkansas Academy of Science (AAS), and the American Society of Engineering Educators (ASEE).

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association was organized in 1963 to facilitate interaction and information exchange among department heads. The organization is comprised of electrical and computer engineering departments at universities from the United States, Canada, Chile and Mexico.
