New Alerts Site Provides Hub for RazALERTs, Emergency Information

The University of Arkansas recently launched a RazALERT website to serve as a hub for updating the university’s operating status including the latest emergency alerts, non-emergency notifications and other updates.

The site, alerts.uark.edu, will also serve as the primary online source for updated information during ongoing situations that present some level of safety threat to the campus community or may impact university operations.

RazALERT messages are designed to alert campus of active threats to campus safety, operational status changes and safety warnings, as well as provide general awareness regarding non-emergency situations. 

An updated Fayetteville Policies and Procedures 205.0 Emergency Alerts, Operational Impacts, Safety Warnings and General Awareness Notifications includes an overview of the four categories of RazALERTs, the different types of alerts and notifications in each category, and the process for issuing various emergency and non-emergency messages.

Previously, the ‘RazALERT’ nomenclature was used specifically for active threat emergency messages only, but the updated policy expands the types of messages that will be considered RazALERTs to help reinforce the official nature of these time-sensitive university messages.

The alerts site and RazALERT changes are examples of the many enhancements the university has implemented since last year’s swatting incident. Other revisions include updating and improving Avoid, Deny, Defend education and training, as well as refining messaging templates and processes to allow for more timely, consistent communications during active threat situations.
