UAPD Launches Avoid | Deny | Defend™ Awareness Campaign Starting Aug. 24

The U of A Police Department (UAPD) and Emergency Management will launch its Avoid | Deny | Defend™ awareness campaign on Monday, Aug. 24, with educational events designed to increase awareness of active threat response procedures and strengthen campus preparedness.

The campaign encourages students, faculty and staff to become familiar with the principles of Avoid | Deny | Defend, a nationally recognized active threat response strategy that provides options for surviving a violent incident. The campaign is part of the UAPD's ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and campus safety.

To kick off the initiative, UAPD will host a Mini Training Session from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 24 in Arkansas Union room 201 (ARKU 201). The session will provide an overview of the Avoid | Deny | Defend™ approach and highlight resources available to the campus community.

Earlier in the day, UAPD staff will be available at an information table outside the Arkansas Union food court from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees can learn more about active threat preparedness, ask questions and receive information about university emergency procedures.

This September, UAPD will launch a new Active Threat Response video designed to strengthen campus preparedness. The video, which will be available on the Active Threat website, provides clear, actionable steps that students, faculty and staff can take to protect themselves during an active threat situation.  With an emphasis on education and preparedness, the video uses a straightforward, instructional approach to reinforce key safety concepts and response actions.
