2026-27 Student Success Grants, Online Student Success Grants Awarded

The Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026-27 Student Success Grants and Online Student Success Grants.

Student Success Grants are funded from the TFSC budget, while the Online Student Success Grants are funded by Global Campus and administered by the TFSC. These grants support innovative projects that enhance student learning, engagement and success across the U of A. This year, 13 Student Success Grants totaling $19,270 and three Online Student Success Grants totaling $5,163 were awarded.

As a condition of the grants, recipients are expected to share the results of their scholarly projects with faculty colleagues through TFSC programming, including events such as the Winter Teaching Symposium and Teaching Camp.

Student Success Grants

  • Justin Hunter, music — portable toolbox and electrical equipment to support hands-on student work ($745)
  • Aelim Kim, School of Art — 360-degree cameras and accessories to enhance student experience with COIL ($900)
  • Jennifer Carpenter, music — purchase of a Prakticello instrument for student use ($1,645)
  • Miguel Garcia-Salas, communication disorders and occupational therapy — development of structured instructional materials and classroom resources ($1,500)
  • Donald Johnson; agricultural education, communication and technology — support for attending the Lilly Conference on College Teaching and Learning ($1,785)
  • Shari Moxley, Sarah Hixson and Betsy Garrison, human environmental sciences — mental wellness conversation cards to support student engagement and well-being ($2,364)
  • Susannah Swearingen, School of Journalism and Strategic Media — support for attending the Teaching Professor Conference ($1,900)
  • Rocio Paez Ritter, sociology and criminology — support for attending the Lilly Conference on innovative teaching strategies ($600)
  • Lynn Meade, Fulbright student success — support for hands-on learning equipment as part of development of AI for Career Readiness course ($1,251)
  • Lexi Almy, sociology and criminology — support for conference attendance ($880)
  • Ambrin Ling and Joomi Lee, School of Art — development of a virtual collaborative drawing module ($1,500)
  • Lauren Brewer, Department of Marketing — support for attending Harvard Business Publishing's "Teaching with Cases" seminar ($2,000)
  • Christine Rickabaugh, University Libraries — support for attending the Lilly Conference ($2,200)

Online Student Success Grants

  • Claretha Hughes; counseling, leadership and research methods — software support for analyzing open-ended survey results for research study focused on improving online student success ($962.50)
  • Sheida Raley and Elizabeth Lorah, curriculum and instruction — resources for student incentives to support integrating interteaching to online asynchronous learning environments ($1,200)
  • Joomi Lee, communication — platform operating costs and testing to support online instructional delivery ($3,000)
