Fall 2026 Drum Majors to Lead Razorback Marching Band This Season

After leading the Razorback Marching Band through Early Week and three weeks of regular rehearsals, four drum majors are ready to take the field for the season opener this Saturday as Arkansas hosts the University of North Alabama at 3:15 p.m.

José Rodriguez of Springdale, Mackenzie Schofield of Bentonville, Keri Brewington of Conway and Aiden Bowen of Fort Smith were selected as drum majors following a competitive audition process held during the spring semester. Schofield, Brewington and Bowen are serving in the role for the first time, while Rodriguez returns for a second year and will serve as head drum major.

Members of the Razorback Marching Band who have completed at least one year are invited to try out for a spot as drum major. After an initial written submission, applicants are interviewed by the U of A Bands faculty, fielding questions on their qualifications and leadership abilities. From there, select applicants offer examples of their conducting, showcase their version of the famous drum major strut and demonstrate how they would teach marching fundamentals.

"Our student leaders play a vital role in both instruction and mentorship throughout the rehearsal season," said Chase Jones, director of the Razorback Marching Band. "Their impact extends far beyond what audiences see on the field, helping to foster a strong sense of community and excellence within the program. We are excited to see José, Mackenzie, Keri and Aiden continue the proud tradition of outstanding Razorback drum majors."

Each year drum majors are awarded the Preston and Kathryn Woodruff Drum Major Scholarship. These awards were created by Tyler Thompson, a Fulbright College alumnus and former drum major, to honor the Woodruffs for their long and faithful service to the members of the Razorback Band.

Fall 2026 Razorback Marching Band Drum Majors

José Rodriguez plays saxophone and is a senior music education major. Rodriguez will serve as head drum major this fall after previously serving as drum major in the fall of 2025.

"I am honored to return as a drum major for the 152nd edition of the Razorback Marching Band. It is a privilege to serve such a dedicated and passionate group of members that choose to uphold our tradition of excellence. Their leadership and musicianship makes the RMB so special to be a part of. Together we reach Razorback fans across the state and foster a sense of spirit for the University of Arkansas. It is a joy to represent our school in such a special way. May we continue to be The Best in Sight and Sound." 

Senior Mackenzie Schofield is a flute player majoring in music education. 

"The Razorback Marching Band has been an integral part of my college experience. I've made so many amazing memories and formed incredible relationships. It's the biggest honor to stand before the 152nd edition of the RMB as one of the drum majors. I'm eager to start my final year alongside my friends and bring a lasting impact to thousands across the state of Arkansas. This season will be one to remember. Wooo Pig Sooie!" 

Keri Brewington is a music major from Conway. She is a member of the oboe studio at the U of A and is also a third-year Honors College Fellow.

"I am so honored to be a part of making the 152nd edition of the Razorback Marching Band the best version yet. This organization has shaped me into the person I am now, teaching me confidence, leadership and true friendship. Therefore, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to give back to this program in a new capacity. With the largest version of the RMB, I am so excited to see just how much energy and positivity we can bring to game days while cheering on the Hogs!"

Aiden Bowen will be a senior this fall and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in advertising and public relations.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the 152nd and largest edition of the Razorback Marching Band alongside three amazing and incredibly talented people. Each and every individual member steps in to become something much larger than themselves when they join the RMB. From the early mornings to the late nights, the students and staff who surround me work tirelessly to carry 'The Best in Sight and Sound' forward.
