Alison Herring, a certified public accountant in Virginia and U of A alumna, has been appointed to the Dean's Advisory Council for the University of Arkansas Libraries.

Herring earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in accounting from the U of A in 1999 before completing a master's degree in accounting at William & Mary in 2000. She spent 16 years as a senior manager with KPMG LLP, working in the firm's audit practice in Richmond, Virginia, and Dallas, Texas. During her tenure, she also held several national roles, including leading support efforts for a major software deployment between 2010 and 2012.

In 2016, Herring shifted her professional focus toward historical and archival research. She is currently researching the Powell Family Papers, a 19th-century collection housed at William & Mary Libraries that documents a family dedicated to the education of young women.

Herring brings extensive board and advisory experience to the role. She serves on the Board of Directors for William & Mary Libraries, the Walton College Accounting Advisory Board at the U of A and the Mason Accounting Programs Board at William & Mary.

"We are delighted to welcome Alison Herring, a University of Arkansas alumna ('99), to the Dean's Advisory Council for University Libraries," said Jason Battles, dean of Libraries. "Her experience serving on the Libraries Board at William & Mary and her work in archival research and preservation will be invaluable. We are fortunate to have her expertise and commitment as we continue advancing the University Libraries."

Herring said joining the council is both a professional and personal honor.

"I'm honored to join the Dean's Advisory Council for the University of Arkansas Libraries," Herring said. "My connection to the libraries runs deep because my father worked at the University Library for many years when it was located in Vol Walker. I also have fond memories of studying near the arched windows in Mullins after the '90s expansion. Through my archival research and service on the Libraries Board at William & Mary, I've seen how vital academic libraries are to scholarship and preservation. I'm excited to support the continued growth of the University of Arkansas Libraries."

The Dean's Advisory Council provides guidance and advocacy to support the mission, programs and long-term goals of the University of Arkansas Libraries.
