The U of A School of Law recognizes and celebrates the distinguished career of Cathy Chick, associate law librarian, who is retiring Nov. 30 after 42 years of service to the Young Law Library.

Chick joined the library faculty in 1983, specializing in interlibrary loan and reference services, and quickly became an essential resource for the instructional, research and scholarly work of the law school. Through her extensive reference assistance and her remarkable skill in tracking down and obtaining obscure works through interlibrary loan, she has directly supported faculty research and helped make possible the scholarship published by the law school's journals.

Through her decades of work in interlibrary loan, she has established many collaborative relationships with other libraries, expanding the library's resource base and enhancing its reputation. Throughout her career, Chick has been known for her outstanding support to library users and her expert success in locating even the most difficult-to-find materials. She is also active in numerous professional associations for law libraries and has served on countless university committees over the course of her career.

"Cathy has enjoyed an incredible career and has directly supported some of the most critical work of the law school for a very long time," said Steve Probst, head of public services and interim director of the Young Law Library. "She is highly respected by her peers and our students and will be greatly missed."

A retirement reception will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, in the Six Pioneers Room at the School of Law.
