Flyer for Introduction to French Crime Fiction, a spring 2026 course offered through the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

This spring semester, World Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the French Program are offering a special topics course, Introduction to French Crime Fiction (WLLC 3980V-012). Classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:05-3:55 p.m. in Kimpel 109 and will be taught in English. 

This course is intended to introduce students to early French crime fiction and important cultural figures such as Commissioner Maigret and Arsène Lupin. At the same time, the course will also discuss exchanges between France, England and America, and the birth of noir. Topics will include different detective and fictional crime series, Arsène Lupin: Gentleman Thief, Sherlock Holmes and more.  

Students interested in crime fiction are encouraged to enroll. No prerequisites or experience with the French language or French literature are required.
