Italian Consul General to Speak on U.S.-Italiy Diplomatic Relations at U of A
The International and Global Studies Program, the Italian Program and the Professor Antonio Marinoni and Rosa Zagnoni Marinoni Endowed Chair are pleased to host Mauro Lorenzini, Consul General of Italy in Houston, for a special campus event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Gearhart Hall 130.
Lorenzini, who has more than 25 years of experience in international diplomacy, will discuss Italian-U.S. diplomatic relations and share insights from his distinguished career, which spans service across four continents. This event will offer students, faculty and community members a unique, firsthand perspective on diplomacy, international relations and global issues.
Born in Livorno, Italy, Lorenzini earned a degree in political science from the Cesare Alfieri University of Florence before joining the Italian diplomatic service in 1998. He has held positions at the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Office, as vice consul of Italy in Newark, as first secretary and head of the commercial office in the Italian Embassy in South Africa, the permanent representation of Italy to international organizations in Geneva, as well as counselor in charge of humanitarian affairs and relations with the International Red Cross. He has served as consul general in Caracas, Venezuela, then as special envoy for Chad and as head of the Unit for West and Central Africa. Since July 2008, Lorenzini has been in service at the Diplomatic Institute of General Directorate for Human Resources and Organization (MAECI Rome) as deputy director. Since October 2022, he has assumed the role of consul general of Italy in Houston.
