University Housing is seeking faculty to participate in the Residence Hall Faculty Fellows Program (formerly Adopt-A-Prof). This initiative connects faculty with residential students to create meaningful social and academic experiences outside the classroom.

Faculty Fellows become honorary members of a residential community, building informal yet intentional connections with students. The program integrates faculty into residence hall life in various ways, linking students' academic pursuits with their daily lives.

Examples of engagement include co-hosting events, joining a movie screening and discussion, leading a sponsored study break or competing in events such as "Are You Smarter Than a Professor?"

New this year, Faculty Fellows will also take part in quarterly dinners held in campus dining halls, offering casual opportunities for conversation and connection. All costs for faculty participation are covered by University Housing.

Faculty are asked to commit approximately two to four hours per week with their assigned residence hall community. Engagement may include attending or co-hosting programs, sharing a meal with students or supporting academic initiatives in the hall.

"Research shows that these interactions boost students' academic engagement and confidence in approaching faculty, while also providing faculty with a stronger sense of community and more meaningful mentorship opportunities," said Lenea Patterson-Newcomb, coordinator for academic engagement.
