Abrahams Selected for Music Will Modern Band Fellowship
Daniel Abrahams, an associate professor of music education in the Department of Music, has been selected to participate in the 2025 Music Will Modern Band Fellowship, a nationally recognized professional development program. The fellowship will occur from July 7 to 11 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Hosted by Music Will (formerly Little Kids Rock), this fellowship brings together a select group of music educators from across the country to explore the Modern Band approach. This innovative teaching method incorporates popular music styles such as rock, pop, hip hop and country. Modern Band emphasizes hands-on music-making, creativity and contemporary instrumentation, including guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals.
"I'm honored to be selected for this opportunity and look forward to applying what I learn with my students and colleagues," Abrahams said. "Modern Band offers an inclusive framework for reaching all learners by connecting music education to today's students' diverse cultural backgrounds and musical interests."
As a fellow, Abrahams will work alongside nationally respected educators to study instructional techniques, develop new curriculum materials and engage in collaborative workshops designed to enhance and support equity, creativity and musical engagement in K-12 and higher education settings. His participation in the program will further strengthen the U of A's Music Education program, where Abrahams teaches undergraduate and graduate music methods and pedagogy courses.
His selection highlights Abrahams' continued leadership in advancing innovative practices in music education and his commitment to preparing future music teachers who are innovative, reflective and equipped to create inclusive learning environments for all students.
