Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to Host Open House Aug. 27 at New Location
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is set to begin its 16th year at the U of A with over 75 programs, social activities and special events to be offered.
OLLI is based in the College of Education and Health Professions and provides opportunities for adults to share intellectual interests, meet new people and explore cultural topics with peers. To kick off the season, an open house event will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 2-4 p.m. at OLLI's new space, 481 S. Shiloh Dr. in Fayetteville. There will be opportunities to become a member, register for classes and learn about the upcoming fall events/activities.
OLLI's catalog of classes and events is available on the OLLI website. Program topics are diverse and offered in a variety of formats, including online via Zoom.
The Bernard Osher Foundation in California recently awarded $25,000 to the U of A OLLI to increase activity in fundraising and membership. "This is the fifth renewal of a capacity grant that has been essential in helping us engage with a broader demographic and sustain high-quality programs," said Director Josh Raney.
OLLI currently has 260 members who have joined for the year, and the institute has partnerships with two local retirement communities, Butterfield Trail Village and Grand Village. "These partnerships allow OLLI to engage with lifelong learners by offering classes at these communities," Raney said. "OLLI hopes to engage with over 500 members this academic year."
OLLI memberships are $50 annually and $40 for active Arkansas Alumni Association members. There are no age restrictions or prerequisites to take OLLI classes, and members receive discounted course fees and access to exclusive members-only programs.
